The Upper Makefield Fire Company participated in the 89th annual Bucks County Fireman's Parade on Saturday June 13, 2009.  The parade was sponsored by the Newtown Fire Association in conjunction with the celebration of their 120th anniversary.   The members of UMFC worked hard in the weeks prior to the parade getting the apparatus ready for judging while the UMFC families created the B.R.A.T. pack float.  The float this year was a "Flood Safety" theme showing a rescue boat and a house with 2 people trapped in it.  The B.R.A.T. (Be Ready And Trained) pack is a group of Firefighter's Children that put together a fire prevention and safety float during parades.  The B.R.A.T. pack did all the designs themselves and drawing themselves, and with a little help attached them to the float.  Saturday came and the Apparatus was all ready to be judged, the B.R.A.T. pack had their float ready and the parade was ready to start.  While waiting, Congressman Patrick Murphy stopped by and we had the whole gang get a picture.  The parade started and we started down Washington Ave, left onto State Street, past the reviewing stand and parade judges and then left onto Penn Street.  We were just about to go past the CVS and it started to sprinkle.  By the time we got to the end of the parade at the industrial park it was pouring.  We were fortunate that we were at the beginning of the parade because we were able to get to the large tent before the real heavy rains came. Along with our brother firefighters we waited under the tent until about 4:30 when they started to hand out the coveted trophies. UMFC was awarded 3 trophies for their hard work, 1st place in Bucks County for Engine/Rescue (Rescue 71), 2nd place in Bucks County for Chiefs Vehicle (Chief 71), and 4th place in Bucks County Engine 1999 and older (Engine 81).
